Sinead O’Connor causes anger after calling white people ‘disgusting’ in racist rant

Sinead O’Connor has sparked outrage on social media after posting a number of controversial messages on Twitter claiming she doesn’t want to spend any more time with ‘disgusting white people’ after converting to Islam.

The legendary Irish singer apologised to her fans for ‘What I’m about to say’ and then went on to say ‘But truly I never wanna spend time with white people again’

Sinead, who know refers to herself as Shuhada’ Davitt after converting to Islam last month, went on to say she thought ‘white people’ or ‘non-Muslims’ are ‘disgusting’.

The 51-year-old, who has battled with mental health issues, was instantly met with a furious backlash from her fans, Muslims and non-Muslims who found her comments ‘racist’ and ‘not what Islam teaches.’

One person commented: ‘Are you kidding me, you come into Islam barely two weeks ago and are causing more hate then Anjem Choudry’s little finger could manage in years’.

Another commented: ‘You’re disgusting too then, because you’re are also white.’

While another wrote: ‘Wonder if she’s aware. That there’s other white Muslim’s like herself. Islam is a religion not a race.’

Muslims also quickly distanced themselves from her comments and started the hashtag #notintheirname.

Responding to the comment, one Muslim Twitter user also posted: ‘Islam doesn’t hate or dislike people on basis of their colour.

‘You must change this thinking Shuhada’. Allah is merciful and Prophet Muhammad (saaw) taught us kindness for all.’

Another wrote: ‘So you convert to Islam and now you don’t want to spend time with white people?’

‘If you really think that you’re an embarrassment to Islam, and I for one would not want you tarnishing my religion with this hate speech #notintheirname’

The Irish singer announced to her fans last month that she had converted to Islam and has also changed her name to Shuhada’ Davitt.

The Irish superstar, who was ordained as a priest in the 1990s, turned her back on her previous religion after saying she went through a ‘theologian’s journey’.

She wrote: “This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim.”

Adding: “This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant.”

She also also changed her twitter profile image to a Nike tick with the caption ‘wear a hijab. Just do it.’
