The internet has in many ways changed the world we live in and it can often be a rather grim place, especially when it comes to stealing someone’s privacy or making a person the object of public shaming, however, every now and again some images appear on the World Wide Web that melt our hearts and go viral for all the right reasons.
A random act of kindness unfolded at a doctors office in Florence, Alabama and one bystander was able to capture the heartfelt moment.
The heartwarming image has since gone viral and has managed to restore our faith in humanity.
The picture was shared on Facebook by Natasha Crittenden Wilson and has since received 1.3M likes and 423,157 shares. The photo is seemingly simple but has managed to touch hearts across the world.
“I was sitting in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, a lady walked in with a sleeping baby on her shoulder,” the lady who captured the image, Wilson told “Good Morning America.”
Wilson stated that the woman was handed a load of paperwork to fill out, but she was trying to figure out how to manage the paperwork whilst holding the baby in her arms simultaneously.
“That’s when this gentleman from across the room spoke up and said, ‘Ma’am, would you like for me to hold that baby for you while you do that?’ the mother showed a sigh of relief and replied, ‘That would be wonderful!’”
Furthermore, Wilson also told GMA that: “the gentleman went over and picked up the sleeping baby and sat and hummed to him and rocked him until he was called back to his room. This was something I had never witnessed in my life. I have seven of my own children and people just don’t normally offer help anymore to someone they don’t know.”
The mother of seven also affirmed that she has never witnessed anything like that and the gesture touched her heart for personal reasons.
“It was heartwarming ‘especially because he was an older white man, just completely not thinking anything of race,’ she said.
Adding: “Just loved on this baby as if it was his baby. He completely saw nothing of color, and neither did that mom.”
Wilson further stated “I see both sides of everything. It’s just not very often that you see compassion for a complete stranger, and especially across races.”
Wilson managed to get in touch with the older man in the picture who told her “that’s just who I am”
